THE UFFIZI GALLERY

One of the most important museums in the world and the first in Florence!!!

The Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici needed a place for the “public offices” and asked to the great architect Giorgio Vasari to build this building. That’s why the name “Uffici” ( Offices).

The Medidci startet to use the building also as a place where to keep their private collections.

Later the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo Lorena changed the Uffizi from private collection to a Museum.

This Museum is the right place where to see the steps of art in the history.

Inside the Museum is possible to see ancient statues and paintings with different styles, from the XIII century up to the XVII: starting with Giotto, Botticelli up to Caravaggio. With a special attention to the works of the three big Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raffaello.

WALKING TOUR PLUS DAVID

The Accademia Gallery can be considered the house of David, symbol of Florence and masterpiece of Michelangelo.

Originally situated in Piazza Signoria, David mooved to the Accademia Gallery where a room was created only for him.

We will see others Michelangelo works as the Prisons and the unique Michelangelo’s technique called “ unfinished”.

After that we’ll take a walk in the center of Florence, and we’ll see Duomo Square with the Baptistery and the Cathedral, Signoria Square with Palazzo Vecchio and the Old Bridge.

SIGNORIA SQUARE AND THE OLD PALACE

Political heart of Florence, Signoria Square has alweays been a thetare for the most importanat happening of the Town: fighting between Guelfi and Ghibellines, the death of the Dominican Frier Savonarola who was executed in this square.

Signoria Square is considered an open air museum because of the original statues that are based here: the Rape of the Sabine by Giambologna, The Perseus obyBenvenuto Cellini are only some of the works you will see in this square.

From the suqare we will go to the Old Palace the place where the Florentine Repubblic first and the Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici later, took important decisions for Florence.

The Palace was so important that all the decoration were made by the most important artists of each period in which there were renovations. We will se works of Donatello, Verrocchio, Vasari and even Michelangelo.

BARGELLO MUSEUMS

One of the most ancient palace of Florence, built to host the “Capitano del Popolo”.

During the next centuries became house of the Podesta and finally a Museum.

Here you will see the David and Saint George made by Donatello; Bruto and Bacco made by Michelangelo; the animals made by Giambologna and many others works made by the most important artists of Florence.

Inside the Bargello Museum we will see the panels submitted by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi in order to win the competition for the Baptistery door and that started the big competition between the two great artists of the first part of the Renaissance...

CATHEDRAL, BAPTISTERY AND OPERA DUOMO MUSEUM

Sain John the Baptist Square has always been the religious heart of Florence.

First the Baptistery and after the Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore have been the landmark to the citizien of Florence since the Middle Age.

Nearby the Cathedral we will visit the Museum of the Duomo where we’ll admire the original Paradise door by Ghiberti and the Maddalena by Donatello.

You will se the original works that where decoration of Baptistery and Cathedral.

The ticket will allow you to climb the Giotto Tower and the Brunelleschi Dome from wich you will joyn the best view in town.

THE GREAT BASILICAS OF FLORENCE : SANTA MARIA NOVELLA AND SANTA CROCE

The Santa Maria Novella Basilica was built by the Dominica Friers after their arrival to Florence in the first part of the XIII century.

The beautiful facade made bay Leon Battista Alberti is an example of Reinassence architecture where the repetition of geometrical figure remind us a sense of armony. Even Michelangelo who is famous for his bad character, as soon as he saw the facade loved it and called it “my bride”.

Inside we can see the Trinity of Masaccio, first Reinassance paintig where was used the linear perspective discovered by Brunelleschi, friend of Masaccio; the crucifix of Giotto and Brunelleschi and the Tornabuoni chapel frescoed by Ghirlandaio with the help of a youg employee: Michelangelo.

 

Santa Croce is together Basilica, Museum and cimitery!!!

Many artists and important persons who lived in Florence are buried there.

We will see the tumb of Michelangelo, Galileo, Vittorio Alfieri and each tumb is made by an important artist and can be considered a monument.

The church was build by the Franciscan friers that came here in the XIII century and has been decorated by the most important artists of that period: chapels frescoed by Giotto and his followers; the famous crucifix of Cimabue, restored after the river Arno inondation in 1966, and the one of Donatello that was criticized by his friend Brunelleschi…
